Rainy Days

It's pouring outside in NYC today and all I want to do is curl up on the couch with a blanket and watch movies. Unfortunately it's about 75 degrees out and muggy, so that won't be happening. But in my fantasy world it would be cool and I'd have a fire going with a cup of spiked cider.

And here's what I'd be wearing and curled up under.

Stripes + Cargo = Julianne

Yesterday while "watching" the Rachael Ray show (I say watching because with an 8 month old crawling around at warp speed, I never really watch anything), I saw this segment with Julianne Moore. I absolutely adore her as an actress, but what I loved about this was her outfit. Such a stylish combo of stripes, cargo, and ankle boots.

I haven't been able to find a still shot, so here's a link to the video on Rachael's site: http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/show/segments/view/julianne-moores-table-setting-tips/

And above are a few options to recreate this look.

Enjoy!

Fall Faves

This past weekend while walking around the huge Brooklyn street fair known as Atlantic Antic I was stopped several times. The reason? This top from Target. Evidently I found a winner because everyone wanted to know where I had bought it and they were shocked to find out it was from Target. Actually the Tucker for Target line which is in stores through mid-October.

Not only is it roomy and a great transition piece for late summer/early fall, but it's lined with a very thin layer of sweatshirt material. Love, Love, Love It!!!!

Prada Spring 2011

A few of the looks from Prada's Spring 2011 show. I love the saturated color and canvas bags, very chic!

A Little Something...

In my former life as an Accessories Editor I would search through hundreds, if not thousands, of pieces for the perfect fit for my pages. Whether it was shoes, bags, tights, or jewelry, I visited showroom upon showroom, designer upon designer, trade show upon trade show. After awhile you've seen everything and only the very special pieces warrant excitement.

I know I've been out of that loop for awhile, but I still look at every accessory and clothing item with the same eye that I did back then. I guess it's one part of the job that never leaves you. Which is why, even though it's Fall, I wanted to share this cool bracelet from Roarke.

It's definitely going on my "must have" list!

Enjoy the weekend!

Fashion Is In The Air

As many of you know, today is the true beginning of Fall, in the Fashion community anyway. Spring 2011 Fashion Week kicks off. This year will be a new venue, Lincoln Center, and I'm headed in today to check it out.

I'm also making a fall resolution, in that I'm going to start posting again. With the addition of Beatrice in January I've been a little off my game lately. Now that we've spent a few months together getting to know each other, I want to get back in the game.

So, here's to me sticking to my resolution and a wonderful NY Fashion Week!

Perfect Pre-Fall

Balenciaga Pre-Fall, WWD

Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall, WWD

Celine Pre-Fall, WWD

Major designers and design houses have been releasing Pre-Fall this week and it hasn't disappointed. Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler, and Celine were all shown in WWD this morning and based on this I can't wait for the Fall Collections.

Balenciaga had a definite sporty appeal, incorporating technical fabrics and prints in a range of styles. Proenza Schouler's collection was inspired by "The Catcher in the Rye" which was delivered with an updated version of traditional preppy. And Celine's Phoebe Philo updated her urban chic look with a dose of playfulness.

Even though it seems like Spring 2010 was just shown, Pre-Fall 2010 has been debuting for weeks now. The latest is Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, which for this season was inspired by Ali McGraw's varsity style.

Here are a few looks from the collection.

What I Want Wednesday

For the past few years I've been obsessed with Roberta Freyman's boutique on the Upper East Side of New York. It is a mix of items she's imported from around the world as well as things she's designed in collaboration with others. She also has an off shoot lifestyle collection, Roberta Roller Rabbit, which focuses on adorable home furnishings, children's items, and pj's (among other things).

If you're in NYC a trip to her store is a highlight, but if you're not she also has an online site that offers up a small selection.

Here are a few of my favorites from her current collection.

Golden Truth

Cuff by Toby Pomeroy

Rings by Susan Gordon

Sapphire ring by Melissa Joy Manning

Since the 2006 release of Blood Diamond the jewelry industry has made a conscience effort to know the origins of diamonds. More recently they've also taken on gold mining and the controversy that surrounds it. Consumers are becoming more and more informed about what they buy and where it comes from and retailers are responding by sourcing cleaner gold.

While this is still a new practice, giants such as Tiffany's and Wal-Mart have joined the cause.

Here are a few of my favorite designers who are working with clean gold.
