Riding High

The New York fashion scene is currently obsessed with the newly opened High Line and Anya Hindmarch has just created a canvas tote to support the restoration and preservation of the park. The tote displays a historic black and white image of a freight train on the original tracks and retails for $150. The tote is currently on sale at Anya's stores, on her website and at Jeffrey's.

To Dye For

Foley & Corinna bag from Saks Fifth Avenue

Reed Evins sandals from Oak

Michael Kors scarves from Vivre

It's been so cool and rainy in NYC this summer that it's felt more like Seattle. Consequently I've wanted to start wearing all of my summer dresses and sandals but other than the (very) odd warm sunny day I've been unable to. That is, until hopefully, today. It's supposed to be sunny and (wait for it!) 82!!! I can't believe I'm actually wishing for warmer weather, but what can I say, you always want what you don't have.

So, in an effort to start thinking summer I've pulled images of some fun tie-dyed pieces. I know that the subject of tie-dye starts quite a controversy, but I think if done right, it can be a colorful addition to your summer wardrobe. And, the bonus is that since it's already mid June, a lot of these are on sale.

Enjoy!

What I Want Wednesday

I've decided to dedicate each Wednesday to "What I Want Wednesday". I'll share with you some of the accessories I'm coveting (and hoping) to purchase soon.

Most people who know me, will agree that my taste tends to lie on the more "traditional/classic" side. I'm not one of the magazine editors who can pull off the rocker-chic look (although I do really admire them). However, over the past few months I've found myself really drawn towards the layered chain necklaces. I once had an amazing silver looped RJ Graziano necklace that was vaguely in this genre, but sadly, it broke (and I've yet to have it fixed). So, I have my sights set on designer Winifred Grace's necklaces. I worked with Winifred while at O Magazine and not only is she a wonderfully nice person, but her designs are amazing.

Here are the choices I'm obsessing over!

The line will retail from $285-$365 and be comprised of 7, mainly unisex, styles.

What sets this line apart from other sunglasses collections is the Eco twist, both wood packaging and bamboo frames are made from recycled materials and for each pair sold a tree will be planted.

It's About Time (& Jewels)

Image from D&G
Image from D&G

This week I went to preview D&G's newest Time & Jewels collection. I've always been a fan of the clothing and accessories line but (to me) the watch and jewelry collection had been lacking, until now.

The newest collection took a departure from the hardcore rocker of D&G and has branched out into a more vintage, almost sweet, vibe. They've also included basics such as plain gold and silver stacking bangles and lockets. The collection starts at $85 and are available now at D&G Boutiques.

Resort, Take 10

Balenciaga Image from WWD

Another Monday, another resort collection. Actually images of both Lanvin and Balenciaga became available today, so no complaining from me.

Balenciaga had a little bit of everything, from prim and proper to sleek. The shoes were mainly of the peep toe bootie sort and they even had a look in which the bag matched the material of the clothing. It will definitely be interesting to see if this is an idea that carries over to Spring/Summer 2010.

Over at Lanvin Alber Elbaz's girl threw on a little bit of everything from her travels around the world. I'm in love with the floral flat sandals and the layers of jewelry. Lanvin is consistently one of the go to collections and his resort didn't disappoint.

Flower Power

Floral jewelry is everywhere for the Spring/Summer season and I can't believe this inexpensive version of a certain designer cuff. It's only $34 and available online at Anthropologie.

Have a great weekend!

Kara Ross Resort 2010

White River Rocks Necklace
Stingray Bracelets
Chunky Cocktail Rings
Snake Bracelet

Lately I've being attending a ton of jewelry appointments, but I have to admit, yesterday's appointment at Kara Ross was one of my highlights.

I've known Kara since she started her company in 2003 and each season she continues to develop pieces that are fresh and unique. In February of 2008 she launched her boutique jewelry line, which is at a lower price point than the fine jewelry collection. This collection is proving to be a huge hit, especially in these rough economic times.

For Resort 2010 Kara's inspiration included snakes, river rocks, and the cityscape of New York.

Here are a few images from my appointment. Everything will be available in November and you can learn more about Kara and her collections on her website.

Bendel's Opens Temporary Miriam Haskell Boutique

Images from Miriam Haskell

Today Henri Bendel's is opening a temporary boutique for costume jeweler Miriam Haskell. Haskell opened her first boutique in 1926 and created pieces for everyone from Lucille Ball to Joan Crawford to the society women of New York.

Just as when she first began her business, all of Haskell's pieces are still created by hand, which is a rarity in the costume jewelry industry. And many of the vintage pieces are huge collector items today.

Pieces in the Bendel's boutique will range from $250-$1200.

A Bright Start to the Week

Image from Toywatch

A few summers ago Toy Watch came on the scene with a plastic watch that instantly became a "must have" (O Magazine even featured it as one of their favorite things). This summer they've introduced the Jelly Strap Watch Collection. The thing I love about this is that you can create your own combination based on different colors of watch cases and straps. And what if you get bored with a bright green strap? Simple, purchase a different color. All of the watch cases are interchangeable with any of the jelly straps.

Visit Toywatch's website for more information.

In Hopes Of A Sunny Weekend.....

It has rained the entire day in Brooklyn, and while most people would complain about it, I couldn't be happier. It actually gives me the excuse to do all of the following:

1. napping
2. curling up in my overstuffed chair and reading
3. watching movies (or any dumb reality show that happens to be on)

But, I am ready for a sunny weekend. Lee Goldberg (our weatherman) tells me it's going to be "beautiful, a complete 180 from today". If so, I just might have to buy a new pair of espadrilles and hit the park.

Les Toiles Du Soleil opened their first store in NYC recently and they not only have tons of beautiful fabrics, but they carry all sorts of accessories made using their fabrics, from aprons to notebooks to deck chairs to espadrilles and everything is well priced.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Where the Lovely Things Are

Even though I'm new to the world of blogging, I've become obsessed with finding new blogs (I try to check out at least one new blog everyday) and I'm amazed at all of the interesting items that people find.

So, I felt I had to share this one from the blog 'Where the Lovely Things Are'.  These are some of the most adorable vintage inspired brooches I've seen in a long time.

Thanks so much Mallory!

Surf's Up!

Image from WWD

The images are out today from Prada's Resort Collection and (as always) I love it!  Miuccia Prada is one of the rare designers that has a fresh approach to each season, which results in collections that are stand outs in the world of fashion.

This resort she focused on style with a beachy attitude.  The show opened with draped looks in colors such as sand, coral, and aqua and then she moved onto prints-oh the prints!!!!  She's always done prints in a way that makes you want to own every single piece and this was no exception.

As for the Accessories, I'm simply in love with the shoes, which ranged from sweet floral numbers to heels with little scarf ties (that matched the prints!).

Well done, Miuccia, well done!
