Off to the Races!

Art by Jeff Williams

The 135th Kentucky Derby is just 4 days away and tomorrow morning I'm boarding a plane bound for Louisville.  This will be the first time I've attended the Derby and I can't wait to check out the amazing hats, horses, and of course, mint juleps!

I'll make sure to take plenty of pictures and post them upon my return!!

On A Lobster Roll

Every year as the days become longer and the temperature becomes warmer I start to crave our annual trips to Cape Cod.  Since it's going to be several months before I am able to make that dream a reality, I do the next best thing....have one (or several) lobster rolls.

The past few weeks have found me (and my significant other) devouring those Cape Cod staples whenever given the chance.  Of course, nothing can compare pulling over to a roadside shack between Orleans and Provincetown, these NYC stand ins have satisfied my craving until I escape to the Cape.

The following 2 are recent favorites:

Fairway Market, Red Hook, Brooklyn:  On a recent grocery run we decided to grab lunch at the in store cafe and I couldn't believe the quality of lobster rolls served.  This could definitely become a ritual (pre shopping, of course).

Jordan's, Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn:  I've heard about their rolls for years and on a recent Sunday we climbed in our friends car and headed out.  Huge amounts of sweet meat (with the mayo on the side, bonus!) filled these rolls.  Also make sure to get the fried clams.  YUM!!!

Ruby Delight!

Yesterday I had the chance to preview the Fall 2009 collections from Ruby Press.  Melissa Davis (a former magazine editor turned PR publicist) has assembled a beautiful and eclectic client base and has always been a go to for my own editorial needs.  Check out all of her clients and website at

Some of my favorites from the preview were:

Fritts Rosenow:  Cheeky and whimsical bespoke boutonnieres from a celebrated San Francisco florist.

Rubie Green:  Upholstery fabrics and Bedding from former Domino magazine editor Michelle Adams, all organic, and best of all, very reasonably priced.

Cost Plus World Market:  An amazing chain store that brings the best of the world to the US, including, a quirky mix of everything from kitchen accessories to outdoor furniture from Turkey to Switzerland.

Peek…Aren’t you Curious?:   The most adorable kids clothing!  I’m in love with the Frida skirts and the new Liberty print Fleur des Champs tops.

Iomoi:   This stationary/desk accessories company has given their Fall 2009 line an ethnic infusion.  I can’t wait to update my desk with the gold elephant tape dispenser (which is under $100!).

The pieces I previewed today will be available mid to late Summer, but make sure to visit their sites and see what is currently available.

For the past 8 years I have been working in the magazine industry as a Fashion Editor.  I left my full time job in September 2008 to pursue freelancing.  Since then I have become engrossed in online blogs and decided to share a little of my own life in the Fashion Industry.  In A Stylish Presence you’ll come along with me on market appointments as well as discover some of my favorite people, places, and things.
